FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington Borough, Warren County – Robert Griffin of Washington Township was appointed as the director of the newly created Recreation Department of Washington Borough. John Corica, Borough Manager, announced that Mr. Griffin was hired on April 3rd to be the new department’s first director. Corica said that the Mayor and Council adopted an ordinance on April 1st to restructure the former Recreation Commission into a Recreation Advisory Committee and created a Recreation Department under the Manager.
“We are very pleased to have an individual with Bob’s depth of experience on board so quickly,” Corica said. “Bob has jumped right in and is overseeing park improvements, the pool renovations and is working with volunteers to staff up for the summer programs. Bob is a lifelong resident of the Washington area and has previously served in the Borough’s recreation program.”
Mr. Griffin served as a teacher and principal in the Warren Hills Regional School District for nearly 30 years. He has experience in budgeting, organization and administration including supervising adult staff and children. Mr. Griffin also served as the recreation supervisor for six years during which time he oversaw the renovation of the park grandstands. In addition to Mr. Griffin’s past experience, he currently holds a Certified Pool Operator certificate, which is helpful in overseeing the borough community pool.
Mr. Griffin indicated that his vision for the immediate future of the department includes improving the level of service provided in our current recreation programs through a collaborative effort between the Director and local volunteers. Mr. Griffin’s focus will be on improving current programs and exploring new programs, such as dances and music in the park.
